It was a curious thing, how she could actually feel time. It was like a steady hammering in the back of her head, the sharp pain accompanying her every breath, the slick sensation of something running through her fingers which made her clench her hands so hard the knuckles turned white. Her heartbeat aligned with the rhythm of her feet hitting the ground, a relentless tic toc tic toc eating away at her mind and body, time running out.

Strangely, she couldn't remember when she had started running. It could have been hours, or merely minutes, or all her life. (The last sane part of her mind insisted that that was impossible.)

But she did remember what she was running from. How could she forget? The images of flashing white teeth and torn limbs and blood, oh god, the blood had burned themselves into her mind. Sometimes, she could still hear them. A coarse howling, maybe, or fast steps, somewhere behind her.

It was all that kept her going.

She couldn't see anything but those images, flashing in front of her eyes.
She could taste blood and smell her own sweat and fear.
In her back she heard the faint rustling of clothes.

She felt the time running through her fingers.

Briefly, she wondered what would happen if they caught up to her, but it was a stupid, useless thought. (She would die. Simple.)
The real question was what would happen if she could get away. The helpful, sane, part of her mind chuckled maniacally. She would die. From exhaustion, from an infection in the wound in her side, from starvation. It would be long and painful. She would suffer every second.

She kept on running.

After all, it was good to feel time, feel every step and every breath and every second, just because it was just one more. And one after that.
