Summary: In which a Technobot and a Dinobot get to know each other…

Note: I tried. I hope it makes sense. But this theme was just too cute as not to try it, even though the Dinobot speech pattern made me go crazy! @@ Argh!

---

Lightspeed was searching for Grimlock when he came to the fish pond and only found Sludge.

Sludge’s size was impressive, and Lightspeed didn’t need to calculate that he was the biggest Dinobot in alt-mode. Perceptor had told him that this Dinobot was the most jovial and slowest, but his mass was still a little frightening.

Lightspeed shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “Uhm… Hello there” he said uncertainly, and winced when Sludge rose his head.

“Hello.” Sludge tilted his head along with half of his neck. “You Technobot.”

“Yes, I’m Lightspeed. You’re Sludge, right?” the red mech smiled at the other. “Did you see Grimlock? I’m looking for him.”

“Oh, you Lightspeed know me Sludge are Sludge. Me Sludge like.” The Dinobot grinned, and suddenly he was less intimidating. “Other Dinobots inside.”

“Thank you” the Technobot said, and was about to turn when it somehow felt wrong. He stayed, unsure as to what to do, he eventually asked. “Why aren’t you inside?”

It took a moment until Sludge, gone back to fishing, paid attention to him again.

“Me Sludge have dream. Me Sludge must fish.”

That made Lightspeed frown, and his vocaliser escaped a surprised “Oh?”.

Sludge nodded, and it looked rather odd with this long neck, as though half his body was nodding. The Technobot’s smile became amused, and he sat down on the edge of the pond.

“Me Sludge need most big fish.”

This was a simple dream. “Why? Because you’re the biggest Dinobot?” Lightspeed asked; it was the most logic reason.

But Sludge shook his head. “Him Grimlock most big Dinobot. Me Sludge need fish to him Snarl stop make fun on of Sludge.” The Dinobot’s voice was determined, and before Lightspeed could ask, he continued. “Him Snarl caught most big fish and laughed at me Sludge. Me Sludge no like. Me Sludge no want see other Dinobots Sludge try fishing most big fish. Me Sludge no want other Dinobots make fun of me Sludge too.”

Lightspeed’s visor flickered. He wouldn’t want his team to make fun of him, either, even if they did now and then because of his dream. He had the urge to hug Sludge, but their size difference would make that almost impossible.

“I think one day you will fish the biggest fish and Snarls will stop laughing at you” he said reassuringly. “I have a dream, too, and I believe it’ll come true someday.”

Sludge bent his head so that he was almost on eye level with Lightspeed; and he winced again. This close the Dinobot was even bigger. Sure, his logic circuits had measured the actual size of Sludge, but there was a difference between knowing the facts and seeing them.

Lightspeed calmed soon, however, as the big mech looked at him with widen optics.

“You Lightspeed have dream, too?”

A nod. “I have. I want to explore the stars, and fly through space when the war is over. I hope the war will be over someday.”

“War long. War before me Sludge built.”

“I know. That’s why it’s still just a dream.” Lightspeed couldn’t suppress the sad smile, and he decided that it was better to continue looking for Grimlock.

When he was about to stand up, Sludge began speaking again. “Me Sludge like you Lightspeed dream. Me Sludge like stars. Stars pretty.” A big, toothed mouth smiled at him. “Me Sludge bring you Lightspeed to him Grimlock.”

And with that, the gigantic, heavy Dinobot stomped out of the pond, causing the ground Lightspeed was sitting on to shake.

The Technobot stood up quickly, stretching to look up at the full height of the other.

“But you wanted to fish. I can go alone.” Lightspeed talked a little louder than before, which seemed to be a good idea because of the loud steps and the really great size of the other.

“Me Sludge want. Night no good for fish.” Sludge leant down, and Lightspeed jumped a step back. “You Lightspeed can sit on head.”

“Uhm… I don’t really…” the Techobot stuttered, and was interrupted by Sludge.

“Me Sludge have long neck, so you Lightspeed more close to stars.”

Lightspeed had seen the orange little Autobot riding on Grimlock’s head, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to try it. He shifted his weight again, but couldn’t resist the friendly face which certainly wasn’t built for such an expression.

“O… okay.” Finally, Lightspeed made an effort and climbed onto the Dinobot’s head; and the moment he sat down, Sludge raised it with him on top. Then, the other began stomping his way to the buildings while Lightspeed tried not to fall down and dug his fingers into the transformation seams he could reach; Sludge didn’t seem to notice.

The ride became even more shakily as Sludge began to speak. “Him Kup once walked on star. Him Kup told story. Him Kup said star was all warm.”

Lightspeed bit back a laugh at the impossibility of walking on a star. “So?” He glanced up, where the first light spots appeared at the dark sky. “What else did he tell you?”

“Oh, you Lightspeed want to know?”

“Sure, I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t.”

“Him Kup told many stories. Me Sludge like stories. Him Kup told us Dinobots all about Cybertron…”
