Sherlock-Ficlet - "Freak!"

Challenge: Päckchen #3 - "Freak!"
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Words: ~350
Note: English
Sherlock Holmes is not a psychopath. People tend to give him that look, when he tells them, the sceptic look, doubtful. But really, what do they know? You can't be a psychopath, if you consciously decide not to be one. He can't help being cunning and charming, and the self-worth thing is hard to come by, too, but he has rules.
No lying or manipulating if not necessary.
Thinking about >Consequences. >Long-term goals. >Responsibility. >People's feelings.
He's not perfect, but he tries. It's good enough for Mycroft (who worries about his brother and his career) and Sherlock frankly doesn't care about anyone else enough to try harder.
And anyway, he has no desire to kill anyone. Most of the time. But that's quite normal, isn't it? People say it all the time: I could kill him. Well, Sherlock knows he really could, it's a knowledge most people shy away from, but it's true.
Truth is always simple. It's kind of beautiful, if slightly boring.
The thing is, he won't. The main reason is that the only thing more boring than stupid people are dead people. Except when you have to find out who killed them, and well, not much fun in that, if you did it yourself, obviously.
It's a sound piece of logic, but John doesn't seem impressed at all. He just squints at Sherlock, a bit reproachful, a bit intrigued.
“So you don't kill people as long as others do”, he says and no, that's not what Sherlock said.
“That's not conclusive”, he complains. “It's not even fair coming from a man who actually has killed.”
John looks pained for the fracture of a second (Feelings, Sherlock thinks, damn.), then concedes the point with a somewhat resigned gesture of his hand. “Well, I didn't give you the look, did I?”
"No." Sherlock feels a smile coming on. It's a bit strange, he doesn't smile much. Smiles are for being polite (no manipulation - politeness) or to annoy people who don't like him. But he smiles quite a lot at John and it's neither of those. “No, you didn't.”

Passt also schon. ;)
*approves the hell out of this*
