“Go to sleep”, a voice from the other side of the tent mumbles.

Only one Sleeping Bag

It’s weird, sleeping outside. Devin can’t remember if he’s ever done that. Maybe when he was little. Fairies are supposed to be closer to nature and all that blah-blah, but he’s not an earth fairy and he really doesn’t see why he should get eaten by mosquitos and sleep on the ground.

There are no mosquitos, luckily (Ivy picked their campground well), and he’s not exactly sleeping on the ground, but there’s not much difference in his opinion. It’s been warm all day but now that the sun has gone down the temperature has dropped quickly, and he can feel the cold of the earth seep into his sleeping back.

He’s turning back and forth, distracted by the foreign noises outside, maybe wind rustling through the leaves or animals moving through the brush. He’s pulled the sleeping bag up to his nose, but he’s still shivering somehow.

“Go to sleep”, a voice from the other side of the tent mumbles.

“Sorry”, he says sheepishly.

Ivy’s head pokes out of her sleeping bag, short blonde hair pointing in all directions. “What’s wrong?”, she asks, now sounding a bit more awake.

“Just a little cold.”

“I told you that sleeping bag isn’t gonna cut it”, she says. Then she sighs deeply. “Come here.”

“What?”

“You’re gonna keep me up all night with your shivering and everything. Come over here, I ca unzip the top, then it’s big enough for two.”

She’s not lying, but it’s still awkward getting under the same blanket with a girl he barely even knows.

Ivy clearly doesn’t feel that way. She pulls the top of the sleeping bag over them, then throws one arm around him to keep him close. “Now go to sleep”, she says gruffly against his ear.“

It’d be embarassing to admit how fast he falls asleep like this.
