Alec turned the book he was holding on his head. It still didn’t make sense so he tilted his head to one side. It still looked impossible.

He was so engrossed in the book that he hadn’t heard how Magnus had entered the room. Only his laugh made him startle. “What are you reading, dear? Looks like a very complicated book.”

Alec turned red around his nose and he hated his body for it. He shut the book immediately. “Nothing.”

Of course now Magnus was intrigued and stepped closer, his usual sway in his walk. “What is it, Alec?”

Alec turned even redder as he was holding the book toward Magnus.

“Oh,” was all he said. Then he grinned. “I haven’t seen that in ages. Where did you dig that up.”

“It was on the shelf over there,” Alec explained and pointed to a book shelf on the other side of the room. “I thought if you had this book - you - I mean - that you probably have tried a few things out of -”

Magnus leaned forward and kissed Alec on the cheek. “Never assume anything. It was a gift,” he said softly. “Yes, from a former lover. But I don’t think I ever looked at it this closely.”

Alec let out a little relieved sigh. “So you don’t expect-”

“I don’t expect anything, Alec. I thought we made this clear. We only do stuff that you’re comfortable with.”

“I know, I know, I just sometimes think you must be bored with me. You have so much experience and I don’t. So I thought if I read this book, I could learn something.”

“That’s very sweet of you but it’s not necessary.”

“Ok,” Alec said, feeling a little better. “But can I ask you something?”

“Anything, my dear.”

Alec opened the book again and searched for the page he had been on earlier. Then he showed it to Magnus. “Is that even possible? Anatomically speaking?”

Magnus tilted his head just like Alec had done before. “A lot is possible, my dear Alec, but I’m really not sure this particular thing is.”

Alec laughed. “Ok, good, then I’m not too stupid.”

“You aren’t stupid, Alec,” Magnus said softly and then closed the book. “How about we forget this book and all the stuff that’s in there?” Magnus moved closer. “And just enjoy that you’re here with me tonight.”

Alec smiled and bridged the difference between them to kiss Magnus softly. “I love you, Magnus.”

“I love you, too, Alec. Just you. Not what you can give me. I’m happy with whatever.”

Alec turned red again. “There was actually -” he grabbed the book again and opened another page. “This looks interesting.”

Magnus grinned. “Oh, it does. Want to try it?”

Alec nodded. “Definitely.” He pulled Magnus up from the couch and steered him towards the bedroom, kissing him fiercely.
