„I guess I should return to New York soon,” Tony said. “Now that I’m doing better.”

Alex, Peter, Hank and Kurt exchanged looks, then looked to Erik and Charles expectantly. None of them wanted Tony to leave, but they knew that he needed to her it from Charles and Erik, not them.

“You are of course free to go as you like,” Charles began, “but there is no reason to hurry.” He paused. “If you’ve changed your mind about trying with me, I...” He didn’t want to lie to him, so he couldn’t say he would not mind or not be disappointed. “I’ll understand.” After what Maximoff had done to him, it was understandable that he was wary of telepaths. If he now wanted to be trained by Blair Sandburg instead in his abilities as a Guide, then Charles would accept and support him.

“No, it’s not that,” Tony replied. "I do want you to teach me."

“What is it then?” Erik asked carefully.

“I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”

Erik was struck by the desire to travel to Wakanda and have a talk with the Rogues, for their treatment of Tony. For how their constant rejection and manipulation had left Tony expecting similar hurt from others. Though he knew, from some of Tony's comments, that they had not been the only ones to do so. “You won’t.”

Charles winced at the very pointed thoughts Alex aimed at him. “I know we have not known one another long, but we do consider you part of the family. So you are welcome here, for as long as you wish to stay.”

“Are you sure?”

Damn Maximoff for the mental wounds she had inflicted to him with her powers! The trauma of some of his past relationships was bad enough but she had inflicted even more scars on his psyche.

Eric laid his hand on Tony’s arm. “We’re sure. You are family. We want you here.” And hopefully he would soon be healed enough from Maximoff’s manipulations not to panic when they told him that he was like another son to them.
