Sprache: EnglischTristan came out of the storage room with a fresh bandage and went over to Max’s office.
“It’s time, boss,” Tristan said with a forced smile.
Max looked up from his paperwork. He raisen an eyebrow. “Where’s Avery?”
“She’s busy. She asked me to do it.”
Max waved with his hand. “I can wait until she’s back.”
Tristan rolled his eyes. “Come on, I’m not that bad as a nurse.” He went inside, put everything on the desk and grabbed Max’s hand which was wrapped in a bandage.
“I never said you were bad,” Max said quickly.
“Relax. It was a joke,” Tristan said and pulled the old bandage off. He wasn’t very gentle with it.
“Ouch. Careful, Tristan,” Max said.
“Sorry,” Tristan said but in a tone that made clear that he wasn’t that sorry at all.
“You’re normally a little bit gentler with your patients.”
“You’re not my patient. You’re my boss.”
“I guess at the moment I am your patient.”
“Barely,” Tristan commented as he was wrapping the new bandage around Max’s hand. “Your hand might be but not you.”
“Normally your bedside manner is way better. Something bothering you?”
Tristan shrugged. “I don’t know. Should something bother me?”
Max sighed deeply. “You’ve seen us?”
“Of course I’ve seen you two. I mean you make it so obvious, anyone on this ship would notice.”
“Listen, it has nothing to do with you. It’s something between us. I’m sorry you’re hurt-”
“You’re sorry that I’m hurt?” Tristan cut him off. “Charming Doctor Max Bankman can’t think of any better words?” He tightened the bandage as roughly as he could. He grinned as Max let out a little hiss.
“Tristan, I’m really sorry but we can’t change anything about our feelings for each other.”
“I don’t expect you to change your feelings but you should fucking stop with this bullshit.
“Bullshit?” Max exclaimed.
“Yes, bullshit!” Tristan got louder now. “You are full of bullshit, doctor. You’re trying to shape this whole thing into what you want. First, you don’t want a relationship with both of us because you’re traditional. Then the whole thing with the baby, you were horrible and now that you’ve got used to the idea you want the perfect life with Avery. Wife, kids and a nice house. All the things Max want.”
“You talked to Avery?”
Tristan just nodded. “We talk. We’re friends. I supported her and you didn’t. But now you demand what you want from all of this, not really caring about what Avery wants.”
Max shook his head. “It’s not like that.”
“Oh, it is like that because you didn’t even think about the possibility that the kid might be mine, right?”
Max just looked at him, didn’t say a word.
“Figures. How does your perfect picket white fence dream life work if I’m the father?”
“We don’t know this yet, Tristan.”
“Exactly, we don’t know it yet, but you’re already planning like it’s your baby.”
“It’s just a fantasy. A dream. Wishful thinking. Don’t tell me you didn’t think of all the possibilities.”
“Oh, I have. I thought of all of them. How I can support Avery if she decides not to have the baby or what our future might look like if she wants to have it. I didn’t think of only one scenario, I thought of them all. And I considered you too, Max, because you’re part of this. We’re all in this together but you don’t seem to understand that. You’re so used to working alone and getting what you want that you forgot about me completely.”
Max nodded. “You’re right. I didn’t consider you.”
Tristan looked at Max a little surprised. He hadn’t expected Max to agree with him.
“I was thinking that I finally found it, Tristan. The one thing I’ve been looking for. It seemed to have fallen in my lap. Avery. And then the baby. I was so focused on that, that I didn’t consider you, or - or I tried to ignore that you were part of it.”
“Well, you can’t ignore me if I’m the father.”
“I shouldn’t ignore you even if you’re not the father. That wouldn’t be fair. We were all together that night. We all have a connection here.”
Tristan nodded. “We all have a connection to this baby.”
Max sighed. “I’m sorry, Tristan. I shouldn’t have left you out like that.”
Tristan let himself fall on one of the chairs. “Thank you. Appreciate it. And I’m sure we can figure something out so that we are all happy.”
“I hope so,” Max said gently.
“So, have my two boys made up?” Avery asked with a grin as she popped her head in Max’s office.
“I’m not sure I would call it make up,” Max said. “Tristan yelled at me. A lot.”
“It was justified,” Tristan said and held out his hand toward Avery.
Avery stepped in, took Tristan’s hand, sat down on the desk and took Max’s healthy hand. “We’re gonna find a way together.”
