Sprache: EnglischEddie was fine with beer. Actually, he loved beer. He loved it even more if he could share it with his best friend. But of course he had noticed that Buck wasn’t ok. That he hadn’t said a word since he came through his door. It was unlikely for Buck. He was constantly chatting normally, even when Eddie wished he would just shut up for a change.
Now it was almost eerie that Buck was so quiet.
“Want to talk about what’s bothering you?” Eddie tried his luck.
Buck just let out a huff and took another swig from his bottle of beer.
Eddie shrugged and turned on the TV on a random basketball game. At least they wouldn’t just sit here in silence. Maybe he should put on some pants? Nah, he was good. Buck wouldn’t mind anyway.
So Eddie focused on the game and drank his beer. If Buck wanted to talk, he would open his mouth. Until then Eddie was happy to spend some company.
After the game was almost over, Buck said quietly, “Tommy broke up with me.”
Eddie sat up straight right away. “What do you need?”
Buck just shrugged. He looked so broken. Heartbroken.
For a moment Eddie really hated Tommy, though he had no idea what had actually happened. This wasn’t important right now, though. Buck was important. So Eddie slid closer, lay an arm around his shoulder and pulled him closer.
“I’m really sorry, Buck. That sucks.”
“I don’t even know what happened. I was asking him to move in, to take the next step because it was going great between us - didn’t it go well, Eddie?”
Eddie hummed agreement. “It did.” Support your friend. Important!
“And then - then he just broke up. I can’t remember all the things he said but basically - basically he was convinced that I’m just finding myself at the moment and that Tommy would be the first in a long line of new people. So he broke it off before the inevitable came. Before I would break it off in a few months. But how could he have known? How does he know? He’s wrong!”
Eddie held Buck a little tighter. “Sounds like he was just scared. Maybe he’s been through this before. Maybe he remembers from his first real boyfriend. That he thought that he would be the one and then he wasn’t. Maybe he’s projecting that onto you. I don’t know, Buck, what he’s thinking or feeling, but - but it’s not fair. You really had something great there.”
“Yeah,” Buck whispered. “New and great.”
“I know it won’t feel like this now or not even in a few weeks but there are other great people out there. And I know you’ll be ok.”
Buck pulled back and showed a little smile. “Because I’m such a great catch?”
Eddie smiled, too, but sincerely. “Exactly. You’re great, Buck, and Tommy was not the last person to notice that.”
“I hope not,” Buck murmured and handed Eddie another bottle of beer. “Thanks for the talk.”
“No problem, Buck,” Eddie said and clinked his bottle against Buck’s.
