How long ago was it that Gwil last walked down this cul-de-sac street to the house right at the end on the left side? A bit more than two years. And only now that he was here again he fully noticed how much he had missed this neighborhood. Would he be able to return again even if he lived more than three hours away now and saw no way to change that without abandoning a little five years old girl with separation anxiety who was at his mother’s at the moment? He pushed these thoughts away. There would be a way. This was the first time of him, Fynn and Arvid meeting again in person after all those years of almost no contact. Much had happened. To him and to them.

When he had first gotten into contact with them again via text it quickly felt as if no time had passed. But was it the same now that they were about to meet again in person? They knew about his family. He knew about Arvid’s accident and the marriage. In theory all parties had accepted it. But how would it be when they met Adeena? How would he react to Arvid’s different requirements in assistance?

He tightened his light jacket around him. Summer was getting to an end and he hated the cold. The trees’ colours started to shift to lighter greens to announce the approaching change of seasons. It was the middle of the morning. Most of the neighbours were at work, the children at school so he saw absolutely no one. Most of the houses hadn’t changed but some had, probably with the inhabitants. Gwil had already noticed the lack of the old oak tree on the property next to the one he was interested in. And he knew the owners loved the tree. So either it had been really sick or there was a new owner who hated the tree. He would find out.

He had reached the end and entered the property of his former(?) lovers. He still had the key and the two of them had allowed him to still make use of it. So he did. The stairs to the front door had been added with a wheelchair friendly ramp. Of course Arvid had to be able to leave the house all by himself. He’d hate to have to rely on others for even that.

He took out his key and opened the door. The door was barely shut when he heard shuffling from the end of the hallway.

“Gwil!”

He looked up and gulped. It had been so long. All his reservations were forgotten. He put his bag with a few treats down, hurried to get out of his shoes and then rushed towards Arvid. He came to a halt next to the wheelchair - Arvid had once fleetingly mentioned he hated people kneeling in front of him to be on eye’s level - and leaned down for a hug. His throat was was tight, he couldn’t get a word out, even worse when he felt Arvid reciprocate the hug. It had been so long. Too long.

He barely noticed the steps on the stairs but didn’t startle when he felt a second pair of arms around him at his back. He wanted this back! This was home! No matter how much he loved his daughter and sacrificed anything for her… this was where his heart wanted to be.

“Gwil? You alright?” Arvid’s voice was tender but also filled with emotion.

Gwil still couldn’t talk. So he just nodded.

“He’s emotional.” Fynn stated as quietly as he could.

“As if you aren’t.” Arvid rebutted.

“Guys…” Gwil finally managed to say. He didn’t want them bickering right now.

“Hey… don’t cry, love. It’s fine. We’re here. You’re here.”

“Love?” Now Gwil looked up and right at Arvid, a tear running down his cheek.

“You’ll always be my love. Even if we should just stay friends.”

Gwil’s grip around the other man’s shoulder’s tightened and he felt Arvid’s fingers in his hair to calm him down. When he managed to do that, Arvid continued: “Why don’t you two go to the couch and I’ll get the tea? It’s better for your back.”

Gwil still needed a few seconds before he was ready to let go of Arvid, but when he straightened up, he noticed a small ache in his back. Arvid smiled at him.  But then went to pick up the bag Gwil had brought along. “May I open it?” he asked for permission. Gwil had promised to bring something to eat.

“Sure.” Gwil said and hugged Fynn now. At least Fynn had not changed much on first sight. They would figure everything out. There still seemed to be feelings in each of them. They would find a way!
