It was a nice, sunny afternoon a few days after the police had stood in front of Gwil. The initial shock had settled but Gwil’s soul was still raw. Arvid had reached his lawyer who was willing to take the case. They had done everything they could but Gwil was still stressed. So much had stirred up again, memories he’d rather forget forever even though he hadn’t been the accused party last time he had been at a courthouse in a case of CSA. It had been horrible to find out his daughter’s best friend had been assaulted by her own father. And now he was accused f having done the same thing to Adeena.

“Gwil. You’re over-thinking again!” Fynn’s voice drew him back into reality and he felt the gentle press of his boyfriend’s hand in his own. Right, they were on a walk through the neighborhood to enjoy the last sunshine of summer. “Come, tell me, what have you planned for the exhibition next month?”

“Nothing… They disinvited me because of this mess.”

“What? You didn’t tell us!?” Fynn looked up at him in shock. Was he assuming Gwil kept it from him

“I got the mail this morning. And I didn’t want to tell you via text.”

“But you’re innocent!” Fynn exclaimed.

“I guess my good name is ruined now… You know the internet… For so many people accusation equals guilt. You wouldn’t accuse anyone of that if there wasn’t at least a breath of truth in it…”

“Your breath of truth is your good hands with children.”

“We know it but all those people who don’t know me?” Gwil sighed heavily. Even if he most likely got out of this mess legally unscratched, his career as an artist would definitely suffer. At least he still had his job at the theatre so he wouldn’t be completely without income and his boyfriends were generous with him. He wouldn’t be homeless or have to starve. But he wanted to be there for his daughter.

They strolled through the well known streets and the little park. In any other circumstances they would stop by the playground to watch the children play ad maybe even join in but not today. Gwil felt like the eyes of all the parents were glued to him in disgust, even though it was probably just his imagination.

So they passed the playground without stopping.

Not much later they met the new couple in their neighborhood. Over sixty, very religious, seven children, the youngest two still in school. The look they bestowed upon Fynn and Gwil was cold.

“Mr. Ruiz, Mr Pritchard. How are things going?” the woman asked

“Fine, thanks,” Fynn answered. Those people didn’t need to know more than necessary.

“I’ve heard the police has been visiting you?” The man said with a not quite but almost smirk. So were they really behind this whole mess? Gwil felt his palms grow wet and his hands beginning to shake, not even the soft caress of Fynn’s fingers could stop it. He pressed his lips together.

“Where did you hear it?” Fynn asked frosty.

“Neighborhood talk.”

“So many people had witnessed the three minutes of the officers being at our house?” What did Fynn want to accomplish here? Gwil looked at him but was ignored.

“Sucks to be a pedophile.”

“So it was you who called the cops on him!” Fynn exclaimed and Gwil tightened his grip on his boyfriend’s hand. They couldn’t afford an assault case on top of everything and Fynn’s hand also started to shake in rage.

“We just did what is obvious! The poor girl!”

“The poor girl? You don’t know the damage you are doing with your accusations! Get out of my eyes! Come on Gwil.”

They left without a word but heard the couple call “pedophiles!” after them.

This was bad.

“Come. Let’s go home and get the rapiers. I need to let steam off.”

Gwil just nodded and followed his boyfriend.

“But at least we have heard now that they are behind this.”

“But we can’t prove it. They will deny it.”

“They can’t” Fynn grinned bitterly and got his phone out of his pocket to stop the recording. “I’ve got everything on tape. We will get them and clear your name.”

Gwil wasn’t so sure but there was a bit of hope.

“Before we go…”, he said quietly.

“Yes?”

“Can I have a hug?”

“As many as you need. Come here big guy.” Fynn opened his arms and let Gwil embrace him. He was sad that Gwil had to lean so deep down. Sometimes their height difference was a disadvantage no matter how much Fynn usually loved it.

“Do you want to go out when Arvid’s home or do you prefer a calm night home?”

“I want to stay home. Less judging eyes.”

“All righty. Then cuddle date on the couch with take-out.”

Gwil just nodded. He didn’t feel like talking. He wanted to go home, have a practice fight with fin to calm him down and then just getting comfortable with his boyfriends.
