It was Friday evening when the car pulled into the garage. The motor fell silent, the lights were turned off an then... nothing. The door stayed closed as the driver needed a few minutes to rest. He knew he wouldn't find a quiet place once he entered he house. It was not the most fortunate situation for him, but there was no reasoning with Fynn's family. They didn't care that Arvid had been on another week long business trip and had socialized more than he had wanted to. All they wanted was celebrating into the eldest son's 30th birthday and since almost all the lights in the house were switched on it was safe to assume that the party had already fully started.
After ten minutes of silence Arvid decided to face the reality and got out of the car. He opened the trunk to get his suitcase, locked the car closed the garage and went to the front door to let himself in. He could hear the music from outside the house.

"I hope Fynn has noticed the neighbours..." Arvid muttered under his breath as he stepped into the house. He really didn't want to deal with the police later. The hallway was empty so he climbed the stairs as quietly as possible and opened the door to the master bedroom. He instantly wanted to turn around as he saw three children abusing the large king sized bed as a trampoline. He pinched the bridge of his nose as he cleared his throat.

"Uncle Arvid!" One of the boys cried out and jumped from the bed to hug him but he held him back.

"Ferdando... I already told you our bed is no trampoline", he said quietly. "Get down, I'm sure Fynn or Gwil will gladly play a game with you. Go, Mateo, María"

The three children, all dressed up in colourful clothes, knew not o discuss and shuffled out of the room. Arvid sighed and placed his suitcase in the corner next to the large wardrobe. He would not be able to unpack today, as by now half the family should know,a he was back, so he just looked into the mirror, to see if he was still presentable and decided he was after he straightened his tie and brushed his fingers through his hair. Then he left the room and locked it. He hoped Fynn hadn't allowed any of the guests who stayed over to sleep here.

He went back downstairs and his first way led him into the kitchen to see if there was any food left for him.

"Good evening," he greeted the five other people - Fynn's co-workers - gathered around the large kitchen table which was turned into a buffet with more food than anyone could eat.

"ARVID!"

Arvid just had enough time to turn around until he had his arms full of the almost-birthday boy. He smiled as he held him tight.

"Hey, honey" Arvid smiled against Fynn's light brown hair. "How are you?"

"I'm great. And welcome home. You seem tired." Of course Fynn noticed that.

"It's fine."

"Sure?"

Arvid leaned down to kiss Fynn. He didn't want to think too much about it. There were other more important things to think about. „How's Gwil doing?“ he asked quietly instead.

„He's having fun with some of the kids in the garden. He's great with the little ones!“

„And your family?“

„Civilized. Some are curious about him. Aunt Valentina has already bombed him with questions. Victoria and some others seem sceptical about the whole thing. But they don't say anything in his presence.“

„Good. They will accept that there are three of us now.“ Arvid kissed Fynn again and then let go of him. He needed to stretch his back. usually he loved Fynn's height but tonight he felt like twenty years older than he was and for once he wished his most trusted person in the world

„I'll go say hello to everyone,“ he said and let Fynn get some more food. The living room was full of people and Arvid already wanted to turn around, but he swallowed that feeling. There were people gathered around the large table talking, the stereo was blasting music, the couch was moved to the wall and the space in front of the TV was turned into a dance floor.

He went ver to Fynn's grandfather and then his parents to greet them. "How was your trip, dear?" Fynn's mother asked him."

"Exhausting. I'd prefer not to think about some people's incompetence right now."

Then he said hello to everyone else. Then he turned to the open patio door as there was one important person left to greet and hug. But before he could leave the room he was stopped by Fynn's older cousin Victoria.

"you know you can tell Fynn when overdoes things, right?", she asked.

"What do you mean?" Arvid looked at the woman.

"Getting that youngster into your house was his idea, am I right?"

Arvid frowned deeply. "It was our idea", he emphasized. "All three of us are in this."

"If you and my cousin have problems, there are other ways to solve them, than to bring a new person into the mess."

"Victoria... we don't have any problems at all." Arvid pinched the bridge of his nose once more, regretting that he wasn't wearing his glasses today. "We are three adults who talked that whole thing through and considered if we really want this. And we do. And now excuse me." He really didn't have the energy to discuss this topic today. He noticed Victoria's pitiful look as he stepped onto the patio but he chose to ignore it.

It was already dark but someone had installed all their fairy lights so that Arvid could see the garden was still full of life. Mateo, Fernando and Maria had joined the other kids who were playing in the garden, joined by a tall figure who seemed to enjoy himself, too. Arvid couldn't stop a smile building on his lips as he watched his other very important person chasing the giggling three years old Sofía over the lawn and always failing to tap her. He watched the scene and brushed a strand of hair behind his ears. But then Sofía noticed him and changed direction to run into his arms. Arvid laughed and picked her up.

"Hey, there, Sofía! Are you not tired yet?", he asked the girl.

"No! I can stay up until Uncle Fynn has birthday!" The little girl beamed.

"Wow, that's great!" Arvid said and cuddled the girl before he let her down again to turn his attention to the one he had really wanted to see. Arvid's expression turned soft when he noticed that Gwil was patiently waiting for him.

"Welcome home," Gwil said quietly when Arvid came to him to embrace him.

"Thanks. It's good to be home." Arvid smiled at the other man and kissed his cheek. He wold like a real kiss but Gwil had said a few days ago he wanted to keep it down until he knew how well Fynn's family would react to him. So he let go of the slightly taller man again.

"you seem to have fun."

"I have."

"Then go play. It's getting cold here."

Gwil grinned at him and then turned around to take care of the youngest guests. Arvid returned to the living room, where Fynn was waiting for him with a plate.

"Eat. Just a bit," he demanded.

Arvid sighed. Fynn knew he couldn't eat much when he was stressed but of course he would try. He would do anything when Fynn looked at him like this. He kissed Fynn's forehead and sat down at the table to eat what he was given.
He listened to the conversations around him but barely participated. He usually didn't mind Fynn's family, but usually he had a day of rest before he had to interact with so many people.

When his plate was empty he got his jacket and went out to the garden again. He got the fish food and went to their small pond behind the garage to take care of the goldfish. The music was more quiet here and he could finally understand his own thoughts again and he felt like he could breathe a bit more freely now.

He sat down on one of the large rocks they had placed at the water and watched the last fireflies flying around.
After a while he felt a presence at his back. "May I?" he heard Gwil's rich voice quietly and felt a brush of fingers on his shoulders.

"Yes, please," he answered. Gwil sat down next to him and Arvid turned to him to fully embrace him. "Did Fynn ask you to come here?"

"Do you mind?"

"Not at all. He's buzzing with so much energy right now. I don't think I can bear that for long right now." Gwil had a much calmer presence and Arvid felt himself relax into the warm touch of the other man. He closed his eyes and rested his head on Gwil's shoulder.

"Fynn said something similar."

"There are times I can't stand so many people and so much noise around me."

"Okay. Then I will not say anything."

Arvid felt Gwil's lips against his temple and they fell silent. And Arvid felt like he could relax for the first time this week. Just because someone he loved, no because gentle, loving Gwil held him.

"I love you," he mumbled. And he really did.

"I love you, too."

"Good. But I will be the one who gives Fynn his first kiss of his new decade in life later."

Gwil chuckled. "Of course. I wouldn't want it any other way."

Arvid smiled.
