nachanca, die offiziell zugegeben hat, dass alles ihre Schuld ist.
The aftermath of the whole Merrick thing involves a safe house, pizza and little presents, apparently.
When Nile stepped out of the shower, her blood-soaked clothes were gone, replaced by a neatly folded pair of sweatpants, boxer briefs, a sports bra and a worn grey t-shirt with a faded print of the U. Nahon Museum's logo. Only the shirt didn't fit properly, a bit tight in the chest and a bit wide everywhere else. Nicky's, she guessed, but it was so incredibly soft she had half a mind to keep it.
Barefooted and feeling oddly like she was floating, Nile traipsed into the safe house's living room. Andy was sprawled out on the couch, in sweats herself and greeted her with a small smile. Booker was sitting in the arm chair but moved to stand as soon as she entered the room. "Sit."
Nile was tempted to argue, just on general principle, but she knew she wouldn't be able to keep herself upright much longer. So she took the seat and closed her eyes as Booker clasped her shoulder before leaving the room, claiming that the shower was his while ‘the boys’ were out.
She didn't know how long she'd been sitting there, with her thoughts racing and her brain too tired to try to keep up with them, when the sound of the front door opening startled her upright. She reached for a gun that wasn't there but Andy didn't move.
"We're back!" Nicky called out from the hallway and Joe entered the living room, smiling widely.
"It looks good on you" he declared. "Nicky's favourite shirt." He chuckled. "Well, maybe my favourite shirt. Soft. Well-worn."
Nile just blinked, sinking back into the arm chair's cushions.
Joe sat down on the carpet, resting his head against the couch's armrest next to Andy's feet. She kicked him lightly and Nile smiled. Andy was wearing striped socks, patterned in a garish colour mix: violet next to orange next to lime green.
"So, where did you two vanish to?" Nile tried to make it sound suggestive but was pretty sure it just came out sleepy. Joe and Nicky had taken to the shower together while Booker, Andy and she had been wolfing down pizza but had emerged after merely ten minutes, clean, well put together and only the bags under their eyes had suggested that it was anything else than a usual Thursday afternoon.
Joe winked at her in acknowledgement of her weak attempt at a joke and declared with a grin: "Shopping!" He indicated the two bags next to the door. "Got you some clothes, just the necessities to get you through the next days. Threw out the old clothes, sorry."
"Pity, I liked the jacket."
"That one's in the washer, I'll see what I can do." He hummed evenly. "But there were a lot of holes..."
Andy wiggled her toes. "Joe's handy with a needle but usually the only thing we can salvage are the socks" she mumbled without opening her eyes. "Less bullet holes."
Nile deliberately didn't think about the hole she'd put into her own foot, a few hours or weeks or lifetimes ago.
Joe shrugged. "Speaking of which, I brought you something special." He threw something at Nile, something soft and colourful.
She raised her eyebrows. "Socks?"
His smile was blinding as she held the socks up, their striped pattern even brighter than Andy's. "Wow."
"You'll get used to it" Nicky sighed and kicked Joe in the side with a foot clad in a blue-and-pink striped sock.
