Anmerkung: der Prompt schreit doch Teen Wolf, oder nicht? Und außerdem rewatche ich es gerade, also musste zumindest eine Story von Teen Wolf sein.

Liam sat on the ground, just on the edge of the little pond. He was staring at the water, looking at the reflection of the full moon, his headphones in his ears, blaring loud music. Since Scott was gone it was harder again. Liam had thought he had control over it. But he realized that Scott had been his anchor, being his beta, trusting him had given Liam the control he needed. But now Scott was gone, miles away at college, trying to live a normal life. And Liam was left behind, still stuck in Beacon Hills. With no alpha.
A lone wolf. Omega.
He wasn’t really, he knew that, he was still Scott’s beta, but sometimes it felt like it. Sometimes he felt like he was left behind. Of course he needed to finish school and figure out what he wanted to do with his life, just like Scott was doing, but sometimes Liam was no teenager, sometimes he was only a werewolf. And then - then he was alone.
He closed his eyes and concentrated on the music, forcing himself to stay in control. He could do it. Scott had shown him how to stay in control, and if nothing else helped, pain would make him human. He balled his hand into a fist, so tight that if the claws would come out they would cut into his palm.

Every month now he sat at this little pond, staring at the water, trying to hold it together. Scott had brought him here once, had trained with him here. Liam liked the place. It was calm. Just like Scott was. It was the closest thing to Scott he had left. So he came here, in hope it helped. And it did. It was still hard but Liam somehow managed not to turn and run around naked or something like that.

“Mind some company?”
Liam looked up, his eyes going wide. “What - what are you doing here?”
Scott shrugged. “I was visiting my mom.”
Liam smiled. “It’s good to see you. Really really good.” He jumped up and pulled Scott into a hug.
Scott reciprocated the hug and then pulled back gently. “What’s going on, Liam?”
Liam shook his head and averted his gaze. “Nothing.”
“And why have I gotten a text from Mason telling me you’re not dealing well?”
“He-” Liam grunted and looked to the ground. “He shouldn’t have. I’m fine.”
Scott didn’t say anything to that, just sat down, waiting for Liam to do the same. “You know, my first anchor was Allison. The girl I loved. She was the one thing that helped me to stay human - even on a full moon - and then we broke up. I lost her. I lost my anchor and suddenly I had problems again.”
“But you’re good now. You’re always in control.”
“Because I found a new anchor.”
“You did? How?”
Scott smiled softly as he remembered his mother’s words. “Myself. Someone told me be your own anchor. And I followed that advice. I reminded myself why I didn’t want to lose control. Who I was. Who I wanted to be. And I didn’t want to be a dangerous werewolf, running lose around town. It’s still hard, don’t get me wrong. Especially in the beginning. I had to be really focused on a full moon, directing all my willpower to that but it gets easier. With every full moon. And as soon as you have found your real anchor, you can do it too. It’ll get easier with every passing month and at some point you barely have to think about it anymore.”
“But I was better at it. I had control.”
“So what has changed?”
Liam looked up. “You left.”
Scott showed a sad smile. “I’m sorry. But you don’t need me. You’re one of the strongest werewolves I have ever met. You’re stronger than you think, Liam, and you don’t need your alpha around all the time. Be your own anchor.”
“You really think I can do it?”
Scott squeezed Liam’s shoulder. “I have every faith in you. You’re my beta.”
Liam showed a little smile in return. “Thank you, Scott.”
