"Aaaaaand welcome everyone to our next Panel. " the mod smiled happily into the overcrowded audience while gotten washed over from an thunderstorm of cheering and applause.
"video platforms can be vintage and modern the same, with lots of old staggers and even more fresh meat. No channel matches the other and my guests couldn't be more different to one another themself." The cheering stopped slightly, but the excitement in the room didn't falter one moment.
"With me today - a man from the very first hour. He has one of the most popular channels in decades, his videos reach millions of clicks in minutes and he knows exactly what he is doing - please welcome with me Kylo Ren from 'Supremacy'-" She had to stop again for the deafening erruption of cheer, when he just set the first step onto stage.
It didn't stop when he received his mic and took his place next the mod, so she decided to continue over the crowd: "Her contend doesn't exist a full decade yet, but it matches easiely every long established channel. With several millions subscribers she is one of the most popular newcomer this platform ever produced. A big welcome to ReyofSun from 'Reys World'!" The overwhelming cheering started anew, but this time with clearly more male voices than on his part.
With a short look at the approaching girl no wonder he decided. She was cute, nearly petite, but had that determined aura with her - and she beamed with every light in the room in competition.
Dutifully he stood up again to shake hands with her, greet her, the usual shebang. Someone decided to put them in this panel together, they could at least behave politely.
He didn't know her.
He knew her channel of course, had seen one or two videos when her hype startet so he would know anything to say about it, but he never met her in person. He hadn't seen any necessaties for this.
The more astonished he was when this Rey only sweeped past him, gripping his hand slackly, but didn't spare another glance, instead greeting their host pompously, then taking her mic and siting directly down, turned to their host completely.
Okay… Bitch much?
The mod didn't seem to have noticed, so he swallowed he bit on his tongue and sat also back again, waiting for the interwiev to start.
Like clockwork the first question ditched in: "You two know each other?"
And like the professional poker facer he was, he looked approachable to rey, awaiting the general friendly look back, and answered politely: "No, not that I would know-" when she suddenly spoke completely over him: "Actually yes, we met a few years ago on this very con." She smiled nicely, but only talked to the host. Still not turning into his direction.
And she seemed to know more than he did:
"We did?"
"Actually yes, we did. It was my very first Event ever and I just came back from my first signing, entering the green room," - she gave him a short fake smiling glance - that felt more like a glare really - then turned back to their host: "When he exitied the same moment, he pushed his empty coke bottle onto me and complained loudly to bring a Coke Light the next time."
She kind of told this in a good natured way, so their host stayed her peachy self, but for him it felt like the ice bucket challenge par excellence. Excuse him, what? What just happened?
He still sat flustered there, completely run over, but the host and this Rey just chattered on, like nothing had happened.
Was he imagining things…?
He slowly recovered is composure, when the panel proceeded uninterrupted.
The conversation jumped quickly forward, jokes were made, the usual… only that he got more and more annoyed with every asked question.
At each answer this Rey girl interfered. Each time, she spoke over him, denigrated his answer or even corrected him shamelessly. Each fucking time!
At first he thought, he was illusional. Since she stayed constantly extremely polite, came on flourishly and innocently happy and smiling. Like she was just having a good time.
But it kept happening on and on. On his costs.
In the end he could only grind out his answers, having stark problems to not yell.
"What is your problem!?" Behind the curtain - after the panel - however he exploded.
She was on her way leaving, after having droped of the mic, not deign to even look at him, when he grabbed her arm to hold her back.
But she kept her cool. "Isn't this the question you should ask youself? Since you are the one humiliating me and my channel constantly?"
This however took all the force from his anger. Spiked but none the less irritated he demanded: "I do what?"
"Humilite me. Make fun of my channel and laugh about my content?" She tore her arm away, but didn't bother to run off the conversation. Instead she got really pissy: "You remember your own videos, right?"
A vague recollection of memories came to his mind. He was looking for clues - but couldn't find much. "Oh come, this was like what?… two times!?" He really couldn't remember.
Sure, he had probably made a joke here or there on her behalf - but who didn't? Her channel was basically the biggest invitation ever. How could he not? But this wasn't personal. It never was. Especially when he even couldn't remember doing it.
Everbody joked about fellow channels all the time. This belonged to their community!
"More like 38 times." Now he backweeled - What? "Only in the last year. For a channel that posts precisely one video every week, that's a little much 'two times', don't you think? "
He just stared back. "I never… Those… - What?"
In lack of words he just could stutter.
"Did you count it out or what?" His anger rose again. This girl was insane! What was she implying!?
"Actually yes. After being callled scavenger three times in a row, I started to count indeed, in hope to discover, those were just coincidents."
Her stare into his eyes didn't falter. He swallowed visibly.
"Turns out I was wrong."
Her combative manner faded suddeny and all was left, was a sad looking girl, he didn't even know but who seemed to know him much the more.
