Titel: Feel Like a Monster
Team: Weiß (Titanic)
Challenge: AUs - Monster vs Jäger [fürs Team]
Fandom: Kuroko no Basuke
Charaktere: Riko Aida, Satsuki Momoi, ein random Verbrecher (ist er wirklich random? Hmmm), eventual Riko/Satsuki
Wörter: 1.019
Sprache: Englisch
Warnungen: kleines Bisschen nicht-graphisch beschriebene Gewalt? Es ist ne Creature/Crime AU, also alles, was man auch so in ner Krimi/Police Procedural-Serie vermuten würde
Inhalt:
“Suspect sighted. It’s him, no doubt. Taking him out.”
Riko’s heart almost stopped.
Anmerkungen: Prokrastinieren vor meiner Klausur? It's more likely than you think.

They say once a Monster, always a Monster. Riko, being a Hunter, had never believed it. Not really. She had always brushed it off as a myth people told each other because of the type of work required from Monsters. Always following orders up until the point where there were no orders left to give, where there couldn’t be any. Where there were implicit orders every Monster knew to follow.

Riko wasn’t naive. She knew Monsters did the dirty work other organizations couldn’t. Work that Hunters couldn’t do without getting into legal trouble.

She realized now there must be some truth in that damning myth as she hurried through yet another hallway, the concrete walls to her sides making her feel boxed in. The warehouse they found following the suspect’s tracks had about ten floors. Riko had only reached the third.

Momoi, answer me,” she demanded through the mic for the second time, before she pushed yet another door open, only to be met with yet another silent hallway. She turned towards the next flight of stairs and began climbing them in a hurry.

She heard the static in her ear and almost sighed in relief, only to get a response she didn’t want to hear.

Suspect sighted. It’s him, no doubt. Taking him out.”

Riko’s heart almost stopped.

Taking him out’ sounded an awful lot like something a Monster would do. Like something Momoi had been doing before she joined Riko’s team of Hunters.

Momoi, no!” She hoped Momoi heard her, but there was no response. Nothing in her ear, only silence and her reverberating footsteps through another hallway.

Momoi, we need him alive,” Riko kept talking in the hopes of appealing to Momoi’s obedience for commands, if there really was such a thing in Monsters - or ex-Monsters.

Riko rounded another corner in silence. Then she saw them through a glass door to a conference room.

The man they were after was on his knees, hands covering his ears, a semi-automatic on the floor beside him, and Momoi standing tall a couple feet away from him - Riko recognized her immediately by her prominent pink hair and the blue-ish shimmer of her skin, or at least the skin that was visible under her protective gear. Momoi’s usually soft eyes were hard, and the red color of her irises flashed cold.

Riko couldn’t make heads or tails of that picture before her.

Until she pushed the door open and rushed in.

The sound hit her like a freight train and she went down much like the man not far away from her.

The melody coming out of Momoi’s mouth sounded nice, beautiful even. But it was also like a punch to the brain, figuratively, and it twisted and turned her grey cells in ways that gave her vertigo. It felt like a migraine on a roller-coaster, but at the same time, she could think clearly enough.

Enough for her to pull herself together and call Momoi’s name.

Immediately, Momoi shut her mouth and her head whipped around. Her red eyes widened when she saw Riko on the ground. “Aida-san!”

Riko shook her head and wanted to warn her of the guy across from them. If Riko wasn’t affected anymore, then it was the same for the suspect. But Momoi’s vigilance was, apparently, as ingrained in her as the myth about Monsters suggested. She quickly and efficiently pointed her gun at the guy and unerringly shot the semi-automatic that he managed to grab a hold of out of his hands without hitting the guy himself.

With a few swift strides she was in front of him, and before Riko even knew what was going on the guy was on the floor, arms twisted behind his back and handcuffs around his wrists.

Aida-san?” Momoi called her name with that honey-sweet siren voice of hers and made it sound like a question. An Are you okay? was hidden in the soft upward inflection.

Her voice and her behavior now seemed to be completely contrary to her actions before Riko had stormed in. In the short time that she had known Momoi, Riko had never once thought of Momoi as a Monster. Not in the way so many others apparently were doing. Not once had that always smiling girl with the bubbly personality felt like a threat. Not in the two weeks that they had been working together.

Until now.

I’m fine,” Riko said, even though she really wasn’t. Those red eyes that Riko had only found a little peculiar before, now seemed so sharp and dangerous. The soft features of her face and her pink hair that Riko used to find quirky now seemed to belie the cutting power underneath. Riko couldn’t but compare Momoi to a serpent, always ready to strike.

Riko’s team had only consisted of normal humans before. She had been used to treat everyone on her team the same. To think of everyone on her team the same. She had been willing to do the same for Momoi, knowing Momoi was a siren and an ex-Monster. And in her mind, Riko still couldn’t reconcile what she had just seen with the image of Momoi that she had built based on the past two weeks. Couldn’t reconcile the cold, unfeeling look on Momoi’s face when she had used her siren voice. The inhuman reflexes, speed and strength with which Momoi had overpowered the suspect.

Now, Momoi’s eyes were trained on Riko, and they seemed distant, and Momoi was uncharacteristically quiet. As if she knew.

Let’s get out of here,” Riko suggested to break the heavy silence that had fallen upon them. But it was simply swallowed by it. Momoi stood without another word and dragged the suspect up with her.

She wasn’t looking at Riko anymore, just went ahead and out of the room.

Riko swallowed down the lump in her throat and followed suit.

She never noticed the trembling in Momoi’s hands, or the tension in her shoulders.

Monsters were the only thing that occupied her mind on their way out.
