A/N: Tycho is going to fly a stolen TIE into the centre of the Empire to gather information for the rebellion. On the evening before he ships out, Wedge stops by his quarter.

"Coruscant, hu?" Wedge leaned against the door frame, arms crossed in front if his chest and a scowl on his face. Tycho couldn't read his expression which was, well, unusual after all these years. Not that it mattered much, he was going to ship out on the mission tomorrow no matter Wedge's doubts or whatever this was going to be.

"Sure," he said cooly. "We need the intel and, frankly, I'm the best TIE pilot we have around."

"Don't let Hobbie hear that." It was the expected quip, just without the expected grin. Or any follow up.

Tycho huffed and turned back to his half-packed duffle bag. "I need to do this, Wedge."

"I know. I did clear you for the mission, after all." There was something in his voice, something that set Tycho on edge today even more so than it had years ago: Detached professionalism. They were supposed to be past this, past Wedge shutting himself off like that.

"So, what is this about then, Commander?" He was up in Wedge's face before he even knew what he was doing. "Got a bad feeling about this?!"

Wedge flushed. "If you really want to know, yeah, I do, I have an incredibly bad feeling about sending you on a spy mission into the centre of the Empire without any back-up!" At least the detachment was gone, instead his voice trembled. It was oddly satisfying.

Tycho allowed himself a second to revel in that, to cool down a bit. They'd had variations of this discussion before. Not quite as heated and he really didn't understand what had brought this on tonight but… he understood the sentiment. "Any worse than watching you fly an X-Wing into the Death Star? Or worse than watching you get your hand stuck in a kriffing bomb?" He couldn't help the small smile. Wedge visibly deflated.

"Actually, yes."

"Well, as long as you're not being a hypocrite about it…"

"Sithspit! You know damn well that spy work is different! And that's not even what…" Wedge broke off abruptly, biting his lip and shaking his head. Tycho was still standing entirely too close to him but all the tension between them had vanished, replaced by… something he couldn't quite place.

"Want to elaborate on that?" He asked softly.

"Not particularly, no."

"Gotta love you repressed Corellians. Can't even tell me you love me, hu?" Tycho punched him in the arm and Wedge snorted.

"Oh, you have no idea."

There was that something in his voice again… Something that was entirely too sincere. Tycho swallowed heavily. "Actually, I think I might have… some idea."

Wedge raised his eyebrows, looking entirely too vulnerable for a split second and then he laughed. "Well, in that case, I don't need to tell you. - Just come back in one piece." Wedge ducked his head away. "I'll leave you to your packing."

"Wedge, we ought to talk about this…"

He turned away, his hand already over the door sensor. "I don't think so. You need to keep a clear head and not worry about things like that."

"Wedge…" He was right, of course. "I'll be back in three weeks."

"Sure."

Tycho wasn't back in three weeks. And when returned over six months later, tortured, malnourished and with a haunted look in his eyes, they had a whole lot of other things to worry about.

(Bitte schenk ihnen ein Happy End? ;_; )
