A/N: Hehehe. Einmal wollte ich auch sowas machen

Ned was waiting for him after Julian had returned. Exhausted he fell on the couch beside him and summed up what he’d found out. Or rather how little he had found out.

Ned just smirked at him. “He doesn’t know any metaphysics.”

Julian shot up and stared at him. “How did you find out?”

He continued smirking and stood up. “Oh, I’m such a bad host. I haven’t even offered you anything. Would you like something to drink? Or I could make some sandwiches…” He made a few steps towards the kitchen but Julian pulled him back.

“What. Have. You. Found. Out?”

Ned leaned back on the couch again. “Technically I haven’t found out anything.”

“Then who?”

“Miss Frost did.”

“How?”

“Turns out she has a friend who is a journalist. She asked him if she could have a look at their archives what they had on the trial and everything connected to it. There were lots of articles and interviews back then and of course, Lewis was interviewed as well. In one interview he went on an impressive rant about how he’s sure Hyde used some metaphysics to forge the contract and that he always said that metaphysics was the root of all evil and that he was always suspicious of all metaphysicians and so on…the article also mentioned that they had found a former classmate of Lewis who told them how bad Lewis was at metaphysics. I assume the article then encouraged the reader to draw his own conclusion if these two things were connected.”

Julian sighed. “You know if I had known that earlier I would have spared myself the lecture on W. G. Grace I got instead of finding any useful information myself.”

Ned shot him a look of mock-outrage. “Are you saying you find cricket boring?”

“I would never suggest such a thing.”

“In that case, I could tell you a lot about…”

“One word and I invite Ashdown round and ask him to tell us everything about his favourite painters.”

Ned looked actually horrified by that suggestion. “God no. If I never hear another word about French painters, Stuart architecture and Georgian drama it’ll still be too soon.”

“Actually, I think he was talking about Georgian architecture and Stuart drama. Hadn’t he a lot to say about Revenge tragedies?”

Ned looked like he was about to throw something. Possibly something heavy with sharp edges. Julian raised his arms in surrender. “I promise not to say another word about Vindice* or the Georgian window tax and its influence on the houses back then.”

“You better…” Ned stopped mid-sentence and jumped up. “That’s it!” After a short pause he added less excitedly “Possibly. Probably. I need to talk to Miss Frost and then I need to look something up. And I need you to go to Hyde’s house and look at that study again. And the garden.”

“What?”

Ned explained.

“You’re a genius.”

“Wait till we know for sure before you say that.”

Was? Was?? Ich hab es nicht verstanden! Verrate uns, was er herausgefunden hat! ><

(Ich fand das hier ja ganz schön witzig: “Oh, I’m such a bad host. I haven’t even offered you anything. Would you like something to drink? Or I could make some sandwiches…”)
