It had been a hell of a day. This morning started completely normal and now Keith was thousands and thousands of miles away from home on an alien planet, with four total strangers, one stupid kid he met at the Garrison and Shiro, not to mention that two of these strangers were aliens as well.
So Keith did what every normal human would do in this kind of situation. Find a quiet place to be alone. He didn’t stay in his new bedroom which were assigned to him by this weird guy with the mustache because Keith didn’t want to be found or interrupted. He just wanted to be alone.
Unfortunately Keith hadn’t the biggest luck so his peace and quiet got interrupted. However by someone he could tolerate at this particular moment. He only glanced shortly up to Shiro before he directed his gaze back out of the enormous window to the dark night sky.
“How did you find me?” Keith asked unperturbed.
“You know I was always good in finding you when you ran off again,” Shiro said with a smile and sat down next to Keith.
Keith just shrugged, not actually caring how Shiro had found him or why he was here. So he just stayed quiet. After all there had been a reason why he sought out this secluded area. Not having to talk. Not even with Shiro.
And Shiro stayed silent too, at least for a little while. “Exciting day, right?” He nudged Keith a little, big smile on his face.
“Crazy day I would rather say.”
“We had barely time to talk.” Shiro’s voice got quieter with every word, a clear sign that he wasn’t sure if Keith would be willing to talk and if he would get defensive.
Keith only grumbled something incomprehensible. He didn’t want to talk to Shiro, not about the stuff he would certainly ask. He would be disappointed and Keith never wanted to disappoint him.
But instead of asking some of the obvious questions, Shiro only said, “I’m glad you found me.”
“I immediately dragged you back into space, right into the middle of a war.” Keith couldn’t quite believe his own words. It still sounded so crazy to him. They were kids and all of a sudden they should defend the whole universe? Keith couldn’t even stay in the Garrison for six months without Shiro. How should he work with this team? Keith was no team player, never had been. He was better off on his own.
Shiro was the only exception. Was the only one that wasn’t impressed by Keith’s defensive attitude and just stayed, let Keith throw his anger at him and just waited till he was finished. Shiro had always been by his side till the day he decided to be the pilot of the Cerberos mission.
Keith really tried to make it because he promised Shiro. He promised him that he would have graduated by the time he was back but when Shiro had been officially missing Keith hadn’t cared anymore. There was no one who would want to see him make it. So he stopped trying and it had been only a matter of time till he had been expelled. It had been inevitable.
“It’s not so bad,” Shiro said with a shrug of his shoulder. “At least you’re here with me.”
Finally Keith looked up, right into Shiro’s face. “You really mean that?” Keith had never fully understood why Shiro had stayed by his side, why he had stood up for him over and over, why he had never given up on him.
“I never say anything that I don’t mean.”
Keith studied Shiro’s expression, searched for a lie or a deception but there was only sincerity in his eyes. Shiro had always been honest with him, even when he promised he would be back when he left for the mission. It took a little while longer but Shiro was here now. Back in his life.
This day had been filled with all kind of emotions but having Shiro back had flooded him with a joy that Keith had forgotten he could feel.
“I thought I’d never see you again,” Keith said suddenly, not sure if his brain had already gave permission for these words to leave his mouth.
Shiro sighed, suddenly a sad expression on his face. “I’m sorry for leaving like that. For not coming back. I promised you.”
“If you really were captured by those aliens I don’t blame you. They seem vicious and cruel. I’m just glad you’re okay.” Mostly at least. Shiro’s right arm was now some kind of metal arm and he still had problems with his memories but it was still his Shiro, Keith was sure about that, maybe a little more bruised and battered but Keith could relate to that. “And I’m here to help you.”
Shiro smiled. “You’ve grown up.”
“Maybe not as much as you’d hoped.”
“You mean the fact that you left the Garrison?”
Keith averted his gaze. “Wasn’t really my choice.” He didn’t care at all what the others were thinking, what this annoying Lance was thinking but Shiro’s opinion was so important to him. So Keith was a little scared but Shiro just shrugged.
“Maybe the Garrison was never the place for you.”
“So you’re not disappointed?” Keith’s voice was barely a whisper.
“I could never be disappointed in you, Keith. I said I won’t give up on you and I won’t stop with that. Maybe the Garrison really wasn’t the place for you.”
“And what is then?”
Shiro turned his gaze to the window. “Maybe it’s this?”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know but don’t you think it’s a little unbelievable that a series of crazy events brought us all here? Five people who are perfect to pilot the lions?”
Keith’s lips moved up. “You want to say it’s fate?”
Shiro shrugged once more. “I don’t know. Maybe it is. Maybe we were all meant for this.”
Keith stayed silent after this, not knowing what to say to that. Even if it was fate he was just happy that it had brought Shiro back to him. Then he shook his head, smiling a little. “It’s crazy. That’s what it is.”

Ich bin sehr gespannt, was du damit machen wirst^^
