Keith didn’t expect anyone to listen. He didn’t expect anyone to come. He didn’t expect to get off this planet alive. It wasn’t like he hadn’t any friends. He had the Paladins, and now the Blade of Marmora, but no one knew where he was. And he was far out of range to get any messages out. Still he tried although he knew that his communication device was broken and that no one would listen.
“This is Keith. If anyone can hear me, I’m lost.” The problem was he lost his navigational system too before he crashed on this planet. Keith had no fucking clue where he was. The only bride side was that he hadn’t encountered any wild life so far. He seemed to be safe for the moment, if you didn’t count the gaping gash on his side that bled all over the ground. Some metal had pierced through his skin when he landed his ship. “I crashed down on a planet. Somewhere near the Kalira system.” Keith had been on a mission when a solar storm had it him and knocked him off course.
He leaned his head back. “If anyone can hear me, this is Keith. I need help.” These words didn’t come very often over his lips. Keith hated to admit weakness, hated to ask for help. But right now he had no other choice. He hadn’t even moved out of his wrecked ship. He could barely move. And he was sure that moving would make his wound only worse. As long as there was no immediate threat he wouldn’t move.
Just for a moment Keith closed his eyes, thinking back to his days with Voltron, thinking back to Red. Sometimes Red had sensed that Keith was in danger. He wondered if he would now too. But Red had a new paladin now. He had Lance to look after. And Black had Shiro back. There was no reason why they should worry about him. Voltron was complete. They didn’t need Keith at all.
And the Blade of Marmora was all about their missions. They were used to casualties. As long as the mission was being completed they could live with a loss in their own ranks. The mission was more important than a single life.
Keith had liked it there. He had something to concentrate on. A task at hand. He had felt important again, felt like he belonged, more so than he had ever done with Voltron. And still, right now he wished he was back with his friends because then he could be sure that they would be looking for him. Keith didn’t want to die here. As often as he pretended to be this cold hearted, tough guy, he still was only a frightened kid inside. And this kid was alone right now, bleeding out in a ship that wasn’t working and couldn’t help him at all.
He pushed the button again with shaking hands. “This is Keith. I’m crashed on a planet near the Kalira system. I need help.”

Keith had no idea how long he had been on the planet yet, had no idea how much time had passed. The pain made everything blurry, made it hard to concentrate. He couldn’t even say how often he had tried to reach someone. He only knew that it was too often to not be pathetic. He should have already known after the third try that it wouldn’t do anything. That no one was listening, not even the bad guys.
Keith pressed his hand against his side when he noticed that he stopped doing it at some point and hissed due to the sharp pain that shot through his body. His vision went black for a second. Keith breathed hard. He knew that he would die on this planet. There was no denying it anymore. “I’m sorry, Shiro,” he whispered for no one to hear but himself. Somehow he had the feeling that he had let him down. All he ever wanted was to prove himself, to show Shiro a man that he could be proud of. He failed when he tried to take over Voltron and he couldn’t bare the sad looks that Shiro threw him over and over again after Keith had returned the leadership back to his old friend. So he left to work with the Blade of Marmora. He thought he could do something meaningful, something to help their cause, something that would make Shiro proud.
And now he would die here. There was nothing heroic about this. Just a sad truth.

A sad truth that would come sooner than later. Keith heard a noise and with the last adrenaline that was left in his body he startled to awakeness. He gripped the dagger in his free hand forcefully, ready to slit the throat of anything that would come near him. He had no idea how he managed this last strength in his body and where it came from but Keith would rather die fighting than just let it happen.
When a figure appeared in front of his ship, looking through the glass, Keith’s heart made a jump. He let go of the dagger and let himself fall back in his chair. The sight of Shiro could always calm him down. Right now it was so much more. Relief flooded him and the tenseness in his body vanished. He was saved, so he hadn’t to fight anymore. He could close his eyes and let Shiro do the rest. He trusted Shiro to take care of him. He trusted him blindly.
“Hey, hey, Keith,” he heard Shiro’s distant voice. “I’m getting you out of here, okay?”
“‘m glad you’re here,” he mumbled before letting himself slip into unconsciousness.

When he woke up, the medical pod opened automatically and Keith stepped outside. The big room was mostly dark - except of some small lights - so Keith figured that it was night and everybody was asleep. He made his way to his own room, ignoring the feeling of disappointment that no one had waited for him to wake up. He knew that it was unfair, that they probably didn’t know when he would wake up and also that these pods were pretty good. Keith had been out of danger the moment he’d been stuck in one. Keith couldn’t remember how he got here, only that Shiro had shown up. Maybe Keith had wished that at least Shiro would have waited for him to wake up. After all that had happened - Keith leaving Voltron to join the Blade of Marmora - he was aware that the others probably had some ill feelings toward him but he had hoped that Shiro was different, that he would understand why Keith had to go. Apparently his worry hadn’t been enough to stay around.
With a sigh Keith opened the door to his room, fully aware that he was being stupid. He had no right to expect this from any of his friends. He had no idea what days they had behind themselves. Maybe they were just as exhausted as he was. A few hours of sleep would do wonders probably. And then he could see what damage he had caused to his ship, try to repair it and return to his mission. He’d let the paladins be paladins and he could do something useful with the Blade.
The moment he turned on the light a grunt came from inside his room. Keith stepped in closer just to find Shiro asleep in his bed. A little confused Keith looked around, made sure that his stuff was still in here and that they hadn’t switched rooms out of some necessity. But as it seemed all his stuff was still in place. A few of Shiro’s things though were scattered over the floor as well.
“Shiro?” Keith whispered. On the one hand he didn’t want to wake him, on the other hand he really wanted to talk to his friend, to find out what was going on here.
Shiro startled awake. “Keith?” Shiro blinked a few times and then jumped up as if a bee had stung him. “Oh, I’m sorry - I didn’t think.”
Keith just furrowed his brows. “What are you doing here?”
“I - I-” Shiro stuttered and scratched his neck. “I sometimes come here when I can’t sleep. It calms me down.”
“So you couldn’t sleep?” Keith took off his jacket and threw it on the floor.
“I would have stayed with you but the others kicked me out of the room, told me to get some sleep. They were very persistent. I was afraid to sneak back in, in case Pidge had installed security or something like that.”
Keith smiled a little and sat down on the bed, right next to Shiro. He chose to ignore the fact that Shiro came to his room on a regular basis and just said, “Thanks for coming for me.”
Shiro seemed to relax too. “I’m glad we got there in time.”
“How did you find me anyway? You got my messages?” Keith had thought his communication system had been fried but apparently something had gone through.
Shiro looked at him for several seconds before shaking his head. “No, we got no messages. It was a little unorthodox?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, Lance was convinced you were in trouble. Red was acting weird or something like that. We reached out to the Blade of Marmora and they couldn’t tell us where you were. And when they couldn’t get a hold of you either we started to worry.”
“So it was luck?” Keith had been off course. Even if they knew from the Blade where he’d been heading there had to be a lot of luck involved in this to find the right planet.
“Well,” Shiro showed a wicked smile. “Apparently Pidge had us all chipped at some point.”
“WHAT?”
“After the time we were all scattered apart, Pidge started to worry that this might happen again, maybe even without the lions. She wanted to make sure that we could find each other, no matter what. So she could pinpoint your location.”
Keith shook his head. This girl was unbelievable. “I think I should thank her.” Even if Pidge had done this without their knowledge Keith couldn’t deny that it saved his life. He wouldn’t be here without it.
“Yeah, well,” Shiro stood up, “I should go, let you get some sleep.”
Before Shiro left the room he just stared at Keith for several seconds, as if he was waiting for something. Keith’s first instinct was to ask him to stay but Keith couldn’t get his mouth open, so he just watched him move to the door. In the last moment he found his courage. “Wait.” Shiro turned around and Keith added, “Please!”
Shiro seemed so worried all of a sudden. “You’re okay?”
Normally his answer would have been ‘yes’, denying that he was weak in any kind, but this in front of him was Shiro. He didn’t need to pretend with him. “Can you just stay a little longer?”
Shiro nodded. “Of course, Keith. We can talk if you want. Or just sit here.”
Shiro sat back down and Keith skidded a little closer. It had been so long that they had seen each other and Keith had to almost die to make that happen. “I’ve missed you,” he confessed. Although he loved working for the Blade of Marmora he missed his friends, all of them, but especially Shiro. No one of the Blade would have come searching for him. They had tried to contact him and hadn’t done anything but his friends immediately came for him. He wanted to go back, to be with them again but there was no room for him here. Five Lions - five paladins. They didn’t need him here. And Keith wanted to do something good. If this meant to be alone for a while he would gladly make that sacrifice.
“We miss you, too, Keith. And you know you can come back anytime you want.”
Keith smiled. Shiro always had the gift to be able to read his mind. “I can’t. Not just yet.”
Shiro nodded. “I know. But maybe you can stay for two days?”
Keith turned his head and looked at his old mentor. “Yeah, I think I can arrange that.” Actually Keith looked forward to see them all again, even Lance. He could manage two days of vacation.

Der arme Keith! ._. Ich liebe es! XD

Relief flooded him and the tenseness in his body vanished. He was saved, so he hadn’t to fight anymore. He could close his eyes and let Shiro do the rest. He trusted Shiro to take care of him.
Das ging mir durch und durch! *-*
