Titel: Just one drop of blood
Fandom: Haven
Charaktere: Duke Crocker, Nathan Wuornos

There was pain. Coldness. Hunger. And more pain.
And then there was power. Control. Invincibility.
Just one drop of blood and Duke felt like a whole new person, like he could rule the world no matter how weakened his body was.
Duke had no idea how long he had been in this hole. How long they had tortured him. How often he had switched to his miserable self and back to the strong warrior.
He just knew that he needed more. More blood.
He had the feeling that his capturers took more time to bring him new blood. Or maybe his craving just intensified. He couldn’t stand the pain any longer. He needed the rush to forget it. To feel strong and superior.
This time when the door was opened they didn’t bring him a vial with blood. They pushed someone else inside.
Nathan!
A knife was thrown at Duke’s feet. “Get the blood yourself!” they ordered and vanished.
Out of instinct Duke grabbed the knife immediately. When it came to Nathan you always had to be ready to fight. Not that Duke would do anything with it.
He shook his head. “No,” he murmured over and over again, not wanting to hurt Nathan. But he felt his hand shake, could feel the urge to get some relief for his pain.
“What are you waiting for? I’m right here.” Nathan struggled to get on his feet, he seemed injured.
“I won’t hurt you,” Duke said, trying to sound determined but it was barely more than a whisper.
“We both know that you have no other choice. It’s who you are now. You crave my blood. You want to get high.”
Duke kept on shaking his head. Shut his eyes, tried to cover his ears so he wouldn’t hear Nathan anymore. It made no difference. Nathan’s voice was as clear as before.
“You don’t have to pretend with me, Duke. I know you.”
“Stop,” Duke shouted. “I don’t want this. I never did. I don’t want to hurt people. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“But you will, right?” Nathan kneeled right in front of him now.
Duke still shook his head, tears were running down his cheek. “Please, don’t,” he begged when Nathan placed his hand right on top of Duke’s. “I don’t want this.”
“But you know you need it, right? You need it to survive. So just take it.”
Duke couldn’t control his hand, couldn’t stop it from shaking. Just thinking about how it would make him feel let Duke want to listen to Nathan. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t hurt Nathan.
“There is no need to fight anymore, Duke. If it isn’t me, it will be someone else. You’re a killer. There is no way of changing that.”
“No,” Duke screamed again and he wasn’t sure if it was his own doing or if Nathan helped but the knife sunk into Nathan’s flesh, right into his stomach. Nathan let out a startled gasp, looking at Duke with shock in his eyes. Duke could feel the warm liquid on his hand, painting it to a deep red.
The expected rush of power didn’t come.
There was only guilt and pain.
