A/N: Before we get proper canon on Luke’s return, let me take this opportunity to throw Wedge into the mix.
I played fast and loose with canon time lines as glimpsed from Wiki entries, I’ll hand in my nerd badge at the door. (Also, this is Legends!Wedge, I still haven’t quite brought myself to get into Official!Wedge.)

Wedge thinks a lot about what he will say to Luke when they meet again.

In the first days and weeks after his disappearance, it probably would be “I’m so sorry” or any variant thereof. Over the following months, that turns into a “Kriff, I’ve been worried about you.” and then into “Bit dramatic, don’t you think?”.

About a year after Luke’s disappearance, Wedge becomes angry. It’s been a year without so much as a word from Luke, a year that Wedge has spent decidedly not wallowing in self-pity because there are parents out there who have lost their children that day, because there is a woman right by his side who has lost her son and her brother. “It’s been a year!”

Five years down the line, he decides to not think about it anymore. There is a dark jedi out there and they all know where this will lead and Wedge is over forty, he’s too old for this, too old for another war and definitely too old to pine after a man who deserted them all. He can almost fool himself.

Nine years after Luke’s disappearance, Wedge quits. The Republic has become a bloated mess unwilling to defend its own foundations and Wedge never really liked the General’s uniform anyway. He’d follow Leia Organa and a good cause to the end of the universe, but in the end he’s kind of glad that it’s only to a deserted Rebel Alliance outpost. They are too busy to contemplate what seeing Luke Skywalker again would be like, but late at night, Wedge sometimes imagines punching him in the face.

On his fiftieth birthday, Wedge loses an entire squadron in a skirmish over what’s rumoured to be Kylo Ren’s home base. That night, he smashes his quarters and tells the empty air that isn’t Luke Skywalker “You’re not kriffin’ worth it! You left and they died for you. Because of you!”

During the whole hunt for the map, he firmly maintains that he can’t quite see what the fuss is about. He abandoned us, Leia. Of course, he still sends his pilots out to hunt down clues and to secure escape routes for Winter’s spies. “I really hope you’re worth it.” At this point, he doesn’t actually believe that they’re going to find Luke anymore.

And then, they do. For the first time in ages, Wedge spends his nights thinking about what to say, what to do. He goes back and fourth between punching him and kissing him, really enjoys the option of kissing first, punching later, and writes up elaborate speeches about trust and betrayal and responsibility. In the end, he decides to just avoid Luke. They haven’t seen each other in fifteen years, there’s no reason to change that.

The Millenium Falcon arrives completely unannounced and unexpected. Wedge barely catches the news because he’s about to ship out with Coalstreak and Cobalt squadrons. In fact, he is jogging through the hangar bay towards the captured First Order yacht he’s about to command when he sees Luke and stops dead in his tracks.

And so does Luke.

He’s gotten old. Almost gone are the boyish charm and the amused sparkle in his eyes, that Wedge had fallen in love with a life time ago. And he looks incredibly guilty. Wedge is almost overwhelmed by the wave of affection for the other man that rolls over him. He really, really wants to punch Luke. And tell him that he's been a selfish coward and rattle down the names of pilots they lost in their search for him.

Instead he shrugs, somewhat apologetically and hurries on. Over the shoulder, he calls back: “I missed you."

Neeiin, nicht mal ein Kuss? Erst ein Faustschlag und dann ein Kuss wäre auch okay gewesen... x) Ich will Luke einfach nur packen und schütteln, ugh! Aber du hast es so schön geschrieben! .__.
