Anmerkung: (Spoiler 3. Staffel) Eine kleine Bonding Scene mit Lance und Red, sowie Keith ;)

Talking with Blue was easy. Talking to Red was … frustrating.
With a loud exaggerating sigh Lance let himself fall back so that he lay flat on his back right between Red’s paws, under his giant head.
“You know I just try to bond with you, girl. You don’t have to punish me with ignorant silence.” With Blue it came natural. Almost instantly Lance had felt Blue inside of him, heard her voice in his head. He was not sure if it was common, he never talked with his fellow Paladins about actually hearing Blue but he liked to think it was. He felt special when he talked with Blue, not so useless like the rest of the time. He thought his unique bond with Blue was his strength in this team, was his special something.
And now this was gone. Blue was no longer his.
Now there was Red. And Red was so stubborn and non communicative like her former pilot. Lance had a really hard time to get used to Keith, to form some kind of friendship with him. He feared that it would took exactly as long to bond with Red.
But there was no time for it. They were in the middle of a war. They had just lost their leader and they all needed to pull themselves together to make this all work.
Lance tried, he really tried. But Red was not cooperative.
“Let’s start new,” Lance suggested. “How about we talk about our favourite food?” Lance knew that this made no sense. That this lion he was staring at was a huge robot which didn’t need food. Yet Blue always talked about anything with him, no matter how silly it was.
“I love these little Pizza rolls Hunk always made back at the Garrison. I hate the food goo. Seriously, who invented this? No one with a functioning palate.”
Yet again Lance was hit with silence. No reaction from Red at all. Not even an annoyed eye roll or something like that. “Come on. Just say something!”
“Are you actually trying to talk to a robot about food?”
Lance pulled his head into his neck to look behind himself and saw Keith standing there upside down, arms crossed in front of his chest.
“None of your business,” Lance said. He hadn’t the energy to deal with two stubborn headed individuals. Red was enough of a challenge. He didn’t need Keith on top of that.
“You know she won’t answer you, right?”
Lance ignored this statement, didn’t want it to be true. Why should Lance be able to talk to one lion but not the other? This didn’t make sense. Unless Red only tolerated him, only offered to take Lance because there was no other choice to keep fighting. Red was all about fighting and she just probably didn’t want to get left behind while all the others were out there. So she let Lance pilot her.
This didn’t mean that they were friends. Just like Keith and Lance. They were a team, they looked out for each other but they were no real friends.
They worked together because they needed to.
Lance turned his head back to the lion. “You think she even wants me?” He asked out loud without actually realizing it.
Keith came closer, Lance could hear the footsteps. But it took some time before he actually said something, “She chose you, didn’t she?”
“But she doesn’t talk to me. She is just as quiet as you are most of the time. Just standing in a corner, glaring and brooding at each and everyone.”
“The lions don’t really talk, Lance, I mean not really, they just are there. Don’t you feel connected with Red?” Keith asked, completely ignoring Lance’s words about himself.
Lance shook his head. He felt her, he trusted her instincts when they were in battle. Their bond was enough to form Voltron and to work together but it was nothing in comparison with Blue. With Blue he felt like they were one being, with one heart, one soul.
“You two make a good team. I saw you out there.”
Lance eyes moved to the side to watch Keith who had sat down next to Lance. “We make a good team as well, doesn’t mean that we are friends or anything.”
There was only a second of hesitation before Keith answered, “You don’t need to be friends to fight alongside each other. You just need trust. Do you trust Red?”
Lance looked up again, and sighed deeply. “Yeah I do.” He still missed Blue though and he believed that this feeling would never go away. It was just different with Red.
“You’ll warm up to her. She is amazing.” Keith’s voice was uncharacteristically fond and Lance felt drawn to look at him. Keith glanced up, eyes locked on Red, and he looked somehow sentimental. Only then Lance wondered what Keith was even doing in Red’s hangar. He definitely didn’t come to look for him. Keith wouldn’t do that. If they needed Lance he would have sent Hunk or Pidge to get him, not go himself. So maybe he was here for another reason?
“She misses you too, you know?”
Keith turned around to Lance, mouth half open and just stared at him for several seconds. Lance just smiled at him. “I think she allowed me to pilot her because she wants to be out there so that she can still protect you.”
“She chose you because she felt you wanted to do the same.”
Now it was Lance’s turn to look dumbstruck, and he didn’t know what he should say to that. Keith was right. Lance wanted to protect Keith, he wanted to protect all of them. It was in his nature. In the end he just laughed awkwardly. “Yeah, well, I certainly will save all the others first before I’ll save you.”
Keith cracked a little smile. “Of course.”
For several moments there was silence between them, both just staring up to Red, until Keith suddenly stood up and turned to leave. “I’ll leave you two alone again.”
Lance waved at him. “Okay, see you later.”
Before he was out of the hangar Lance could hear Keith’s voice sounding over to him, “And by the way, we are friends.”
Lance smiled at that. “Did you hear that? He likes me,” he said to Red. “How about you stop being stubborn for one moment as well and also tell me that you like me, eh?”
Instead of an answer Red let out a loud roar.
“I will take that as a yes,” Lance commented and then started to ramble about Hunk’s delicious pizza rolls again.

Awwwwww!

*-* Und sein “And by the way, we are friends."!! Eeeeep, das ist SO Keith! Mal ebenschnell im Rausgehen, damit Lance ihm bloß nicht mit einer Reaktion auf die Nerven geht. Haaaach, ich MAAAG es! *-*
