Da du dir ja entweder Pidge oder Keith gewünscht hast, und ich mich ja dafür entschieden habe, Keith leiden zu lassen, dachte ich, dass ich Pidge wenigstens den Comfort Part übernehmen lassen kann ;)
Pidge turned the casing of the helmet back on and put the helmet on her head. “Hello?” she tested it. “Can someone hear me?” She waited several seconds before pulling it off again. She sighed loudly and put her head into her neck. “Why isn’t it working? It should work,” she mumbled to herself when a groan attracted her attention. Immediately she put the helmet to the side and crawled over to the makeshift bed. She took the cloth out of the water bowl and gently dabbed it over Keith’s forehead. “Hey, how are you feeling?”
“Hot,” was Keith’s only answer and he fiddled with the blanket.
Immediately Pidge pulled it away. “Better?”
“No, not really.” Keith turned his head and looked at Pidge. “What happened?”
Pidge sighed. She had explained it like five times already because Keith was barely receptive. His fever went up and down and he was disoriented. “We are stuck on a planet, with our lions out of reach.”
“Where are they?”
“In hostile territory. We can’t get to them without risking to get shot.” As soon as they had left their lions they had been trapped in a fight. Before they even realized what was going on, Keith had been hit an arrow, probably stained with some kind of poison, and some people had helped them escape. The good side, as Pidge still hoped. At least they granted them a bed in a tent and brought water and blankets for Keith. Unfortunately when Pidge wanted to get back to her lion the leader had held her off, explaining that it was too dangerous to go straight into the war zone. Apparently these two tribes were at war for a long time now. When she asked why they fought she hadn’t really got any answer. Maybe they didn’t know it anymore, or they were just too ashamed to tell.
“What about the others?”
“This is the biggest problem,” Pidge said. “Our communication is not working. I tried to find out why but it seems like everything is working properly. It must be something about this planet that prevents our signal to get out I guess. Like the one time we were chasing Lotor to this planet. Maybe something in the atmosphere is jamming our signal.”
“Okay, then we need to-” Keith started and tried to sit up.
Pidge stopped him immediately and pushed him back onto his bed. “Don’t even think about getting up, Keith. You are sick.”
“I can get up, Pidge.”
“Yeah, sure, but I can’t carry you, Keith. You might be the strong leader now but you are allowed to accept help. Let me handle this situation.”
Keith stayed quiet for a while, just looked at Pidge before he smiled. “So what’s your plan?”
“Watch out that you don’t die on me, and when it’s dark I will sneak to my lion.”
Keith shook his head, or at least he tried to. In his weakened stage it looked pathetic. “Maybe we should just wait for the others to come look for us. It shouldn’t be too long.”
“Normally I would agree but-” Pidge watched Keith closely. If Pidge was honest she was worried about Keith. She doubted that he would hold on this long. And she couldn’t be responsible for losing another leader. The team wouldn’t survive this. This would be the end of Voltron. “Listen, Keith, I can do this.”
“I know. You’re the smartest person I have ever met, Pidge. And you are more determined than any of the other team members. If you get something in your head you don’t waver for a second to reach your goal. I know you can do it.”
Pidge smiled at the compliment. “And you are a great leader, Keith, even if you don’t see it yet. Just one thing.”
“I’m always open for advice, at least when it doesn’t come from Lance.”
Pidge let out a laugh before she said, “Just don’t rush into situations. Stop and think, weigh the options.”
Keith’s eyes widened in shock. “I rushed into this, right? I can’t remember everything … but you followed me.”
Pidge laid a hand on Keith’s to calm him down. “It’s okay, Keith. We still can fix this.” At least Pidge hoped so. The sight of Keith worried her. Sweat was running down his forehead and he was even paler than usual. Once more she tabbed with the wet cloth over his skin. “Just don’t die until I get back.”
“I won’t. And you come back to me in one piece.” Keith grabbed Pidge’s hand and squeezed it gently.
As soon as Pidge was gone Keith closed his eyes. He was extremely tired but his fast beating heart and this unbearable heat didn’t let him rest. He could feel every little patch of skin on his body crying out for some cold relief. He used the cloth that Pidge had left him, dipped it into the cold water in the bowl and then put it on his forehead. It gave him relief for like 10 seconds before his body got used to it again. Keith wondered if hell was an actual place, if it would feel like this. His skin felt like it was burning up.
Keith had had a fever before but nothing like this. He felt like dying. Keith really hoped he could keep the promise he had given to Pidge.
Time was blurry after that. Although Keith couldn’t sleep properly he wasn’t really awake either. So he had no idea how much time had passed when he saw Pidge enter the tent again. It was not really Pidge but more like a green-white blurr. Keith couldn’t see straight anymore and his eyes were heavy.
Knowing that he had kept his promise Keith relaxed and felt the world around him get heavier. He only heard Pidge say his name before everything went black.
The next time Keith opened his eyes he was feeling a lot better, healthy and rested. The healing pod opened in the next second and he stumbled outside. Pidge sat cross-legged on the ground right in front of him, hovering over her laptop. It didn’t seem as if she had noticed that Keith had come out. So he just sat on the ground next to her and looked over her shoulder. “What are you doing?”
Pidge startled and looked Keith over quickly, before she started explaining, “I examined the atmosphere of this planet. It’s amazing. No wonder our communication didn’t work. It’s something like a natural jamming signal.”
“Interesting.” Shortly Keith looked around but they seemed to be alone.
“I think they all went to bed,” Pidge said.
Keith nodded but didn’t really care. “So, can we use this stuff for our advantage?” he asked.
The little wrinkles on Pidge’s forehead showed up, and she crossed her arms. “I don’t think so. It’s not just in the air so that we could extract it. It comes from the planet itself.”
“Shame.”
“Yes, but it’s interesting nevertheless. I have never seen anything like it. It’s amazing.”
Keith smiled at Pidge’s excitement. He always admired her extreme curiosity for science and knowledge. She was an important asset to this group, like every single member was.
“So, you’re feeling better?” Pidge finally asked.
Keith nodded. “Yes, thanks to you.”
Pidge grinned proudly. “You’re welcome, boss.”
