“So, what’s the matter, Duke?” Nathan stopped right in front of Duke, crossing his arms. He seemed not at all pleased to be asked to come here on his night off with Audrey.
Audrey seemed more serious, obviously knowing that something had to be wrong when Duke asked them to come here. “What happened?” She used her cop voice.
Duke turned around to the door of the Gull, pointed at it and turned back around, running his hands through his hair. “So, guys, listen, I mean I am all here for the customer is king and this bullshit, at least most of the time. The customer is not always king, of course. Especially in my business. They are drunk idiots most of the time to be honest actually.”
“Duke! Get to the point.” Audrey looked at him sternly.
“They are kings!”
Nathan furrowed his brow. “It’s really noble of you that you want to change to the better in treating your customers like they should be treated, Duke, but couldn’t you have waited till tomorrow to tell us this?”
“No, Nate, you don’t understand.” He grabbed Nathan and shoved him into his restaurant. Audrey followed them on the spot. “They are kings!”
People dressed as kings and queens were sitting at his tables and at his bar. Audrey smiled amused. “Oh, Duke, why didn’t you tell us you have theme nights? This is amazing!” She walked in, mouth open in awe.
“I have not-” Duke started desperately and sighed loudly. “They were normal half an hour ago.”
“You say?” Nathan turned to him, brow raised.
“Yes,” Duke nodded. “This is a Trouble.”
Nathan shrugged with his shoulders. “Doesn’t look so bad. Could have waited till tomorrow.”
“Really? If you want you can serve them their food. They are unbearable. They think they are always right.” He crossed his arms in front of his chest.
“Guys, stop it. What happened, Duke?” Audrey intervened.
“Well, I was talking to Larry, drunk Larry, and he was complaining about my service and I stayed as calm as possible, trying to explain to him that he had enough and he should definitely not drive anymore and then he suddenly shouts that he is a customer, and so should be treated like a king and he pointed to my other guests and said they are all kings and puff, they were.”
“Where is Larry now?” Nathan asked professionally.
“I don’t know. I was a little baffled. I think he took off.”
“Okay, we will find him,” Audrey told him and took Nathan’s hand.
“Wait, wait, you don’t want my help with that?”
Audrey grinned. “No, we’re good. Just tend to your customers.” She patted him on his shoulder.
“Oh, come on,” Duke almost pleaded. “You always want my help.”
“And you are always complaining. We are just giving you a day off,” Nathan said with a smirk. “Enjoy it!” With that they vanished.
Duke sighed audibly and looked at the ceiling, muttering to himself, “I hate this. I hate this town”, when one of the guests rang a bell to get his attention. Seriously, where did they get a bell?
Duke turned around, charming smile on his face. “Coming,” he shouted while already plotting a revenge plan for Audrey and Nathan.
