Anmerkung: Wieder eine kleine Szene aus Beyond, nachdem Bones und Spock Jim gerettet haben und nun das Alienraumschiff landen wollen, womit Bones ein paar Schwierigkeiten hat.
The adrenaline was still pumping through his veins, let his heart almost jump out of his chest. The big grin was plastered on his face and didn’t want to move. Why should it? They did it! They saved Jim!
They did the impossible - again.
“What would I do without you?” Jim breathed heavily but smiled nevertheless.
McCoy’s gaze immediately wandered over to Spock, knowing that he wanted to leave the Enterprise, leave Jim. Spock’s relieved expression crumbled to a worried one. Jim relied on Spock, more than he probably knew himself, and Spock seemed to realize that now.
“You know, there are two people on board that just saved your ass.” He grumbled loudly, to get the attention from both of them. “Just saying.”
McCoy could see Jim smile out of the corner of his eye.
“And there is still one person who needs to land this ship,” Spock pointed out.
“Don’t start with this again, Spock,” McCoy said immediately. “We had a reason to stay in the air, right? We had to get to Jim.”
“Wait? What is this about?” Jim asked confused.
“The doctor seems unable to land this ship,” Spock informed Jim with his typical emotionless voice.
“I am not unable!” McCoy shouted at once.
“I thought you flew one of these things before?”
“I can fly it, Jim, that's not the problem.”
“He is only reluctant of landing this vehicle,” Spock threw in. “I tried to give him directions but he refuses to follow them. He acts highly illogical.”
“You with your damn logic!” If someone would ask McCoy his reluctance wasn’t illogical. The last time he landed the ship it was on a deserted landscape of a big planet. Now he was in the middle of a city - with people everywhere. He was not fully in control of this vessel and McCoy didn’t want to hurt anybody just because he did something wrong and crashed into a crowd of people.
“Okay, Bones, but we need to land. So how about we try again to help you get this ship down?”
McCoy looked at Jim, all bruised and battered, and suddenly he was so much more determined. He definitely needed to look at Jim properly and patch him up and he couldn’t do this on this tiny ship, still floating in the air. “Okay, let’s do it.” With Jim it would probably be a lot easier than with Spock.
Several minutes later McCoy wasn’t so sure anymore if Jim was the better choice. “Yes, just like that. Only totally different,” Jim shouted over to him and McCoy only sighed. Maybe he should just try his luck on his own, without any annoying backseat drivers who tried to do his job.
“You have to lower the ship in a fifteen percent level,” Spock commented and McCoy did as the vulcan told him. Logic was maybe the safest way to land this damn thing after all.
“Careful with the building,” Jim said. McCoy just ignored him. He wasn’t blind. He could see this huge tower on his own.
“Now slow down, doctor.”
Spock’s voice was actually soothing at the moment, not that McCoy would ever admit to that. So he followed Spock’s instructions further and they actually did it with several bumping up and down from the ground and with a loud and annoying sound of metal scratching pavement. But the ship stopped, right in front of a beautiful fountain.
A smile formed on McCoy’s lips as he realized that the ship was still. That they were finally safe and sound on the ground. “We did it,” he exclaimed. “Now let me get the hell out of this fucking ship.” He pushed past Spock and Jim to get to the exit. One more second in this thing and he would go mad.
Spock and Jim followed on the spot, Spock clutching his side and Jim leaning on Spock a little.
McCoy frowned. “You two. To sickbay. Now!”
Jim started whining at once. “I’m fine, Bones, seriously.”
“And I recall that you already took care of my wound,” Spock commented.
McCoy shook his head. “I followed your orders in that thing. Now you follow my orders. Jim, just look into a mirror. You’re not fine. And Spock, I just want to check on you again. I patched you up with equipment from the middle ages. I just want to make sure that everything is where it’s supposed to be.”
Spock nodded. “As you wish, Doctor.”
Jim sighed audible. “Can we get a drink first?”
Spock raised an eyebrow and looked directly at McCoy. “He is a very complicated patient, isn’t he?”
McCoy laughed loudly. “You have no idea.”
